Valerie J. Himes grew up in Harlan County, Kentucky and graduated from Cumberland High School as Valedictorian of her class. She obtained a B.A. in English from the University of Kentucky, graduating Summa cum laude with department honors. In 2000, she graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Law, in the top 15% of her class. Valerie was an associate editor for the Kentucky Law Journal during law school.

Valerie worked as staff attorney for the Madison and Clark County Circuit Judges. Valerie served on the City of Richmond Board of Adjustments for several years. Valerie is an adjunct faculty college professor at Eastern Kentucky University’s School of Business teaching business law since 2003; and she has taught real estate law in the EKU paralegal program.
Valerie is a member of the Kentucky Bar Association and the Madison County Bar Association, where she served as President in 2011-2012. She is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court.
Valerie is married to Ray Himes, a Berea, Madison County native and they have 3 children, Mason, Maria Jade and Max. Valerie enjoys running and participating in local races, hiking, and being involved in her children’s activities including basketball, baseball, football, guitar and piano.
